“It’s here!” My husband calls to me from the drive this morning. I am riveted by the launch of four astronauts in a rocket (not space shuttle) to the space station. Taking video of the local TV coverage to send to grandsons, my husband heads to view today’s sparkling clear sky. I come barreling out to join him in my fuzzy slippers and we stand in awe. It traverses the sky right in front of us and the boosters drop to land at Jacksonville Beach. I am overwhelmed with pride and physically moved by the solemnity and power of a miracle. These four brave astronauts probably believed their entire lives that anything is possible.
When the national “news” came on, they chose instead to show a snarky British late night host making fun of a photo of the astronauts and a top US official giggling about the “space force”. Oh I am not having any of that! Returning to the sunrise, the jet stream is now bright orange and I let the excitement, pride and amazement wash over me again. What a gift.
If we allow them to, events can lift our spirits, capture our imaginations, teaching us to have expectations. Don’t let anyone tell you how to feel or experience. Every moment is yours to enjoy. Avoid those who hijack your peace. The power of your life is thrusting you forward into adventure daily. Trust that you have the bravery and determination for the journey. Fill your mind with anticipation and your heart with longing for amazement then let it unfold. Never empower others to tell you how to react or think or express yourself.
Take this young man: as I then head to work, he crosses the road. He is missing a leg, moving quickly on crutches, the service dog leash attached to his belt and a baby pack with a cute husky hoodie on his chest. (At first I thought the tiny baby was a real husky puppy) Quite a visual right? But what strikes me? The smile on his face! Proof positive that there is always opportunity to be inspired. Personalize these magical moments, boost your immune system, enhance your own well being. I believe that you too will see, hear or experience something wonderful and wonder-filled today. Be open to it. Let’s chuck the fuzzy slippers and grab some magic.
