Goal Oriented

What goals have your set for yourself? Is one to beat cancer? Probably in there somewhere, but usually our goals are more tangible: get to work, exercise 30 minutes per day, eat healthy. Very simple objectives. If you are on chemo right now, the goal may be to do all of these without being sick.

Every goal starts with an intention then action. Will you choose to set one today? Finish a project or start one? Mix up your routine, sign up for a course, go to a social? What all of these have in common regardless the objective is movement from inertia. “Hey, Doc I have cancer over here-leave me alone!” Remind yourself that you are not living for the cancer, you are living for you.

How about if we make a deal? There are 48 half hours in a day. If you haven’t exercised, then start for 30 minutes. That still leaves you 47 half hours to do other things! When we think about time in this way, it opens so many opportunities. It’s not some enormous commitment. Its 2% of your day.

Out of 1440 minutes in a 24 hour period, 30 is almost nothing, but the impact on you can be everything. Find something enjoyable or challenging. That’s it. Do this for you. When it becomes a part of your routine, find something else for another 30 minutes. It may be as simple as a walk in nature or visiting or calling a friend.

There are many opportunities to enhance your life that cancer has no control over. Take your power back thirty minutes at a time. Watch yourself gain strength. Allow intention to find destination. If you can remember to smile while you do it, even better!

Reminder: Monday is Veteran’s Day. We do not take you for granted. Thank you for your service.
