May God Bless and resurrect The Cathedral of Notre Dame.
“Everything bad is happening today. I can’t take it, Doc.I have cancer and now Notre Dame Cathedral is burning. What’s next?” Hmmm. Samantha is traumatized by the videos of devastation and watching the world renowned steeple falling. The spire on churches is designed so eyes look heavenward. It is a true tragedy, I agree and the world, not just Parisians are transfixed.
Samantha has not seen Notre Dame (Our Lady of Paris Cathedral) and has never been off the East coast, but she viscerally feels pain with the world now multiplied by her own life altering disease.
Two days later, she arrives for therapy and we meet in the exam room. I have downloaded the video of the massive gold cross still hanging with profound strength, amazingly untouched in the nave of the 850 year old cathedral. Donations are pouring in for restoration and precious artifacts recovered. I speak with Samantha about hope. From the ashes the Cathedral will rise and survive thousands more years. Did we ever appreciate it more than on that terrible day? Of course the loss is beyond description, but look at the opportunity to transfix humanity in our lifetime and unite people worldwide with determination.
I am now hopeful that Samantha will appreciate further identifying with Notre Dame and see herself as strong, worthy of rescue and hopeful.
Crowds sang hymns and prayed for the Cathedral and it’s wounds. The spire will rise again and eyes will look skyward once more. My prayers however, are for Samantha who hopefully will find faith in herself for restoration.
God Bless us all and Notre Dame this Easter and may we find comfort in Resurrection.
